Here’s what I do.

I’m an Assistant Professor of Journalism at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication. I teach History of the Press, Introduction to Journalism, and Opinion Writing. I have also taught Labor Migration Reporting and supervised capstone projects in journalism.

I spent 15 years as opinion editor, editorial writer and opinion columnist for Manila Standard, a national broadsheet. In May 2022, I moved my column to Rappler, an online news site.

I also have/ have had various writing and editing consultancies with organizations in the corporate and development sector.

I completed my AB in English Literature, on full scholarship, at Ateneo de Manila University in 1997. I also obtained my MA in Journalism from this university in 2013 as a fellow of the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism.

In 2007, I studied Financial and Economic Reporting in Berlin, Germany as a fellow of the International Institute for Journalism.
